A garden cultivator, shown above is the most common tool used by Beaver Patrol volunteers. It allows sticks to be reached with less wading. It also doubles as a staff which can help you to avoid falling when wading.
Those wading will need either hip boots or waders. Most volunteers also use waterproof gloves.
At times family members, or others who need to avoid wading, can also help by moving sticks without needing any extra equipment.
A large pruning saw is carried by a few members. Sometimes a large branch, or even a downed tree will need to be cut into sections before it can be removed.
Occasionally the Beaver Patrol will add rock to either raise the height of access road or trail to reduce flooding. Tools for those special projects include garden cart, shovels, and hand tamper.
Most Beaver Patrol members avoid hiking in the area we work after the trails ice up. However, when they do, they usually wear boots adapted to walk on the ice without falling as shown below.
