Sitka Black Tail Deer

Sitka black tail deer occasionally visit the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area.  Only have appeared on a trail cam a couple times in the past five years.

It is generally much smaller than other mule deer subspecies (48-90 pounds).  They are quite capable swimmers which allows them to move to islands or the mainland.
