Updated November 10
Coho salmon have returned to Dredge Creek in larger numbers than expected this year, and the run is still continuing. The Juneau Beaver Patrol has worked to insure good fish passage. Beavers have actively been adding to a dam at Nemesis, which has caused extra work for the Juneau Beaver Patrol.
The Forest Service has wanted to discourage coho from entering Moose Lake, as they feel that would encourage them to continue upstream in Dredge Creek instead. There is a beaver dam at the outlet of Moose Lake which tends to block fish from entering the lake. The Juneau Beaver Patrol only manages this dam to avoid trail flooding, and is not notching the dam to facilitate fish passage. However, this dam was lowered, either by a recent flood, or from someone other than the Juneau Beaver Patrol recently. Beavers are again working to restore this dam.
In 2019 KTOO interviewed the Juneau Beaver Patrol, then posted a comprehensive article which can be found under the History page of this website.
