Porcupines are the worlds third largest rodent, after the capybara and beaver. The North American porcupines are a different species from those found in the old world. New world porcupines are less nocturnal, a bit smaller, and much more likely to climb trees than those in the old world.
Locally they are commonly found in forests, but will also wander into peoples backyards to chew on whatever is growing there. Young porcupines are called porcupettes.
