Coho salmon are spawned in Dredge Creek. They spend one or two years in the creek before going to the ocean. Reeds and branches in the water offer hiding places for the juvenile coho. Parts of Dredge Creek go dry in some summers, the remaining areas provide important habitat for the juvenile coho.
The first adult coho return to the Holding Pond as early as August. Some coho are commonly viewed in Dredge Creek each October and November. Seeing an occasional adult coho could also happen in late September, or as late as early December.
Stronger than normal numbers have been occurring every fourth year since 2013.
In past years a few coho also returned to Moose Lake.
